How good are government auction websites?

I have heard lots of different things about these websites, can anyone clarify how they work and which one is top notch? How good are government auction websites?
Listen. There are some good ones, and some scams. Many of them will ask for some sum of money up front (like $40) and will present the perceived ability to search for vehicles and such, but when you pay the money, you'll discover that no such search functionality exists, except for non-government ebay stuff and that 20-80% of the links they provide don't work or are not even government auctions. There are others that will allow you to register for free, but they will not give you access to government auction information (but only to private auctions) until you begin pay them a monthly or annual fee. The good ones, in my opinion, are the ones that will give you an ability to preview everything to the fullest with a free trial before you pay them anything, not even $1, and the only one of these that I've been able to find and am recommending now is Governmentauctions.org. They offer a genuine free trial, and then a reasonable monthly fee, and you can cancel any time without hassles if you don't like their service, which I found to be great because they let you search for upcoming and current auctions and foreclosures by zip code and state and have good learning resources.

You also asked how they work, and the good ones continuously aggregate a large amount on government auction information from various sources, and have in house staff dedicated to this task (again, like GovernmentAuctions.org). On the other hand, the crappy ones just have a bunch of links that they collected at one point to various auction houses (both government and private) and rarely, if ever, update their information. How good are government auction websites?
I would ditto what Alexander said, and I would also add that in choosing a site, you should check to make sure they have a phone number that gets answered during business hours in case you hqve questions or issues. I know GovernmentAuctions.org does, it's listed on their site as 800-515-2431, but I don't know about the others.
