The easiest and best method to download photos and video from your camera to your computer is via a little USB card reader (which are quite cheap these days).

Are you plugging the camera into the computer ? If so and that doesn't work try taking out the memory card and putting it into the computer itself. If your computer doesn't have a card reader built in you can get one for really short cash maybe $10-$20. Once you have that the SD card from your camera should show up as a Drive under "My Computer" if you have windows or right on the desktop if you have a Mac. From there you can just drag and drop the photos to wherever you like. I suggest creating a folder with the date the photos were taken so that you can find them later.
