I'm doing the Mediterranean diet and it says 1 small glass of red wine a night is good. We bought some boxed red wine.. LOL.. but I would say it's definitely not a healthy wine. It's super sweet and tastes good so I'm guessing its' full of sugar. What is a good tasting red wine that isn't really bad for you? What is a good red wine, that isn't super bitter and isn't full of sugar?
Definately stay away from a super cheap boxed wine. Although there are indeed many good wines now being boxed, on average I would stay away from them unless you already know the wine. This is exactly for the reason that you stated, cheap and sugary.
A glass of red wine each night(2 for me!) is indeed very relaxing, and there are numerous health benefits, including heart functions and digestion. As long as you don't overdue it of course.
Red wines are really the only ones that provide that health benefit, since the healthy part really comes from the skin of the grape and not the insides. White wines have almost no skin in them, which is why they are yellowish in color. The reds are where the healthy stuff is at, and the darker the red, the more health there is.
My suggestion would be to start off with a nice moderately priced Shiraz(also pronounced Syrah). Almost all Shiraz are medium bodied. If you find that its too thick for you, you may want to look into a light zinfandel. Although zinfandels can be very heavy as well so you would want to be careful.
If you like the heavyness, try a nice midrange merlot. My all time favorite is Kendall Jackson 2003 Grand Reserve, which is about 20 dollars a bottle.
Good luck! What is a good red wine, that isn't super bitter and isn't full of sugar?
Go to Trader Joe's. They have house wine called Charles Shaw for about $3 a bottle more or less depending on your location, and it's perfectly nice table wine. For reds, they have a cabernet, a merlot and a shiraz. I like the shiraz the best, then the merlot, then the cab, because I have a tendency to prefer the sweeter to the drier myself.
Trader Joe's usually also have a nice varied selection of wine under $10 if you want to branch out..none of it in boxes..lol. But for a perfectly nice table and cooking vin ordinaire, you can't go wrong with the "Three Buck Chuck"
Most red wines do not contain sugar. They are very dry and your choice should be made by which variety pleases you the most. To find this out visit your local wine and spirits shop and speak with their wine buyer. My favorites are the Italian reds.
Try a Chianti or some of the inexpensive reds offered by that shop. Don't be afraid to try the cheaper wines and don't be afraid to try something new. It takes time to develop your palate. Find something you like and the keep experimenting. What is a good red wine, that isn't super bitter and isn't full of sugar?
My mom likes to get Carlo Rossi Sangria, its cheap too.
I think its a bit sour, so you may like it if you like wine, I dont, for kicks I drink (either mt. dew revolution or AMP Energy drink Elevate) with Triple Sec, and White Rum. =P SO, I am not a wine person.
Well availability of wines varies from region to region...
Wines are rated by their sweetness/dryness on a numbered scale with a 0 being the dryest unsweet wine there is. Try to look for something that is rated a 1 or so.
Enjoy. What is a good red wine, that isn't super bitter and isn't full of sugar?
Barefoot Merlot. Inexpensive and not overly sweet.
Probably a Syrah or Shiraz, depending on what name you want to use, fruity, but still dry.
All wine has sugar, that's why it's alcoholic. If you want something light and not too sweet, try a Pinot Noir.
ask me when i start drinking wine
