What's the Mediterranean diet all about? Has it been linked to prolonging life?

The Mediterranean diet emphasizes olive oil, whole grains over refined carbohydrates, fish and legumes over meat and poultry, and cheese and yogurt over milk. I've tried every diet known to mankind but nothing worked as good as acai berry.
